Dollywood in the Fall: DreamMore Resort, Coasters, and Kid Perks

Stop 7 of Macaroni KID Hits the Road: our stay and play in the Smokies

By Devon Sayre October 1, 2026

Dollywood in the fall is magical. 🍂 We spent our Smoky Mountain stop at Dollywood's DreamMore Resort and Spa and then a full day in the park during the start of Harvest Festival. We saw big coasters, gentle rides for little ones, and almost no lines. Here's how it all went down.

PART ONE: THE RESORT

The Wow Factor Starts at the Front Door

There's a pink fountain out front. Not pink lights, pink water! 💗 It was such a fun first impression, and the whole place is designed to feel magical for kids and grown-ups.

Our Room: Butterflies and Mountain Views

Our room was absolutely amazing. The butterfly theme makes the space feel light and airy the second you walk in. 🦋 Our view was even better: we could see Dolly's tour bus right outside our window, and we were treated to a double rainbow, which made our whole trip. 🌈

No matter where you are on the property, you get beautiful 360 degree views of the Smoky Mountains.

Perks of Staying at a Dollywood Resort

If you stay at any Dollywood resort, you get some big perks:

  • Free parking at the park
  • Free shuttle service to and from the park
  • TimeSaver Passes to skip ahead in ride lines

Those three things take a lot of stress out of a family theme park day.

So Much to Do Without Leaving the Resort

This is where DreamMore shines for families. There's something for every age, and a lot of it is free or low cost.

Camp Dollywood. Fun little activities happen right in the lobby, and it's easy for kids to jump in.

🍋 Free lemonade. They were serving it in the lobby while promoting the new ride.

🔥 S'mores. We roasted s'mores, and Blakely was thrilled.

📖 Bedtime stories. A sweet way to wind down after a big day.

🏊 Two pools. An indoor pool and an outdoor pool, so you're covered in any weather.

🛝 A playground. Plenty of room for kids to run around and burn off energy.

♨️ An adults-only hot tub. It's for ages 16 and up, so the grown-ups get a treat too.

🛍️ A gift shop for souvenirs.

Where We Ate

There are restaurants on site, plus a quick-service cafe when you need something fast. We also tried room service, and it wasn't very expensive. The must-order: the cinnamon bread. If you go to Dollywood or stay at the resort and skip the cinnamon bread, you're crazy. 🥖

Helpful and Convenient

  • A ticketing center and concierge. Need help with tickets or want to plan things besides the park? Stop by. It beats standing in the guest services line at the park.
  • Friendly staff. They even stored our luggage for us, which is a lifesaver on travel days.

PART TWO: THE PARK

The Height Band: A Game Changer for Families

When you walk into the park, look to your left. There's a special station where your child's height is measured and they get a colored wristband that shows which rides they can go on. No more getting measured at every ride! 🙌

The band also has your contact information on it in case your child gets lost or needs help. I haven't seen many parks do this, and it made the experience so much better. We always knew right away what Blakely could ride, so lines moved faster and our day went smoothly.

Fall Harvest Festival

We got to experience the start of Harvest Festival, and it was beautiful. There are thousands pumpkins on display, and we didn't run into many lines.

Rides We Loved

🦇 NightFlight Expedition. The new indoor adventure coaster. You soar over the Smoky Mountains, glide across shimmering bioluminescent water, and travel through dramatic landscapes. It felt like an indoor water coaster, the water was super deep, and it was unlike anything we've ridden before. Highly recommend!

🐻 Big Bear Mountain®. Our favorite coaster. It's the longest coaster at Dollywood at 3,990 feet and lasts nearly two minutes. It's a moderate thrill ride with music and announcements, and you go under a waterfall.

🦅 Wild Eagle. One of my favorite coasters and biggest memories from childhood. It's America's first winged coaster, perched 21 stories above Dollywood, and it feels like soaring high above the Smoky Mountains.

🌪️ Tennessee Tornado. A very twisting coaster that nears 70 miles per hour with a 128-foot drop.

⚡ Lightning Rod. So much fun for us.

🐉 Dragonflier. Really cool!

💦 Daredevil Falls. A classic.

🚗 Rockin' Roadway. Blakely loved driving the car! You can drive a classic Corvette, Thunderbird, or Cadillac down a little road set in the 1950s. It's great for all ages.

Wildwood Grove: A Must for Little Ones

Wildwood Grove is a hollow log and hidden land, and it's super fun for kids.

🐻 Black Bear Trail. Blakely's favorite ride! Riders climb onto friendly bears and glide through beautiful backwoods scenery with a joyful tune.

🐸 Frogs and Fireflies. Blakely loved this one too.

Froggy Ride Dollywood

🏠 Hidden Hollow. An indoor playground, great for families who need a break to relax or regroup before heading back out into the heat.

🧚 Characters. We met Benjamin the Bear and the Flit and Flutter fairies.

The Dolly Parton Experience

We also visited the Dolly Parton Experience, which tells the story of her journey from childhood to the real world. You can see costumes from her career, learn about her inspiration, and see the results of her biggest dream, along with the importance of her family. It was so cool to see it all in one place.

Tips for Families Visiting Dollywood

  • Stay at a Dollywood resort. Free parking, free shuttles, and TimeSaver Passes make the day so much easier.
  • Get the height band first thing. It saves so much time.
  • Check out Camp Dollywood for free and low-cost fun between park days.
  • Order the cinnamon bread. Seriously.
  • Visit in the fall. We saw fewer lines, and the decorations were gorgeous.
  • Plan a break at Hidden Hollow if you need to cool off or recharge.
  • Save time for Wildwood Grove if you have little ones.

Our Overall Review

From the pink fountain to the last coaster, Dollywood was everything we hoped for and more. The resort made the trip easy and magical, and the park had something for every age. Big coasters for the thrill seekers, gentle rides for little ones, and a fall atmosphere that made it extra special. We would go back in a heartbeat! 💙
