5 Ideas for a Staycation in Katy!

You don't have to travel far to enjoy a great getaway with your family

By Betsy Winters February 11, 2021

Feel the need to get away but want to stay close to home because of the pandemic? We get it! So we've rounded up five great staycation ideas for Katy and West Houston. Whether you want to get away overnight or just for a day trip close to Katy, here are five ways to enjoy a family staycation within a short drive of Katy, Texas.

1. Brazos Bend State Park

My kids love Brazos Bend State Park because it's a 50 minute drive from Old Katy and there is a playground next to the lake! Upon entrance to the park is a gift shop with snacks, restrooms and beautiful scenes of nature. Brazos Bend offers camping overnight, shelters and day passes.

2. Hunstville State Park

Huntsville State Park is my favorite for hiking, fishing and all the TREES! This park is beautiful, just an hour and a half drive from Katy.

3. Galveston Beach

Of course, Galveston Beach is on this list. Spend a day playing in the sand and grab some dinner at Rainforest Cafe (fun for the kids) or another one of Galveston's great restaurants. My favorite place to throw down the beach blanket is in the shade under Murdochs. There are plenty of hotels, too!

4. Kemah Boardwalk

Kemah Boardwalk is fun! You can walk around the bay or share laughs with the family on a carousel ride. There are plenty of restaurants with outdoor seating, too. My family also visited the Space Center in the same day.

5. Austin, Texas

You probably don't want to do this in just one day, however it's worth mentioning because Austin holds a special place in my heart and it's only a 2.5 hour drive from Katy, Texas. I met my husband at Zilker Park and we got married in Austin, too. Music, food, art, parks, Austin has it all.
