(PLEASE NOTE - Pricing and other information in this article is from October 12, 2017)

For 15 years, Dewberry Farm has been a place for families to enjoy time outdoors in the fall.  (You can read about the history of Dewberry Farm HERE. The kids have gone for field trips a couple times over the years and have always enjoyed Dewberry Farm.  It is so wonderful to be able to take the kids to a local venue that is not far from Katy and it be a one-stop destination for a family day out. Shows:  Pig Races are Saturday and Sunday at 1 pm and 5 pm.

Candy Cannon is Saturday and Sunday at 2 pm and 4 pm. The cannon was running a bit behind but there was so much to do on the Farm we went around and did more activities.

Food:

There are plenty of places to eat within Dewberry. They have everything from Pizza to Burgers to BBQ, and even turkey legs and funnel cakes. There is a refillable souvenir cup that we recommend getting.  Get the 32 oz cup, the refill will end up being $1 cheaper over the refills for two of the 16 oz cups.  Papa Joe's kettle corn is fantastic and is our pick for a treat to try.

**Activities to check out**

Pumpkin Holler

A self paced walking tour of the pumpkin carvings. There are some really neat carvings within the themes like patriotism, Disney, Willy Wonka, and celebrities. Something to keep in mind. It is dark in there so watch your step. There is also a display that might scare the littles. (No flash photography while in pumpkin holler)

Corn Maze

It's a nice walk through the maze. The path is flat and safe to take the kids. You will easily be able to back track and exit if you feel you might get lost.

Flower picking

You are supplied a cup and scissors to cut the flowers. The styro cup is tall so you will want to cut the flowers allowing for a longer stem.

.

Apple Cannon

Each tab (cannon or star from wrist band) or token gives you 3 apples. (You can get more apples by paying with multiple stars or tokens at a time per person). The cannon is takes a bit for young kids to maneuver so you will want to help the smaller kids lock and lock the apples into the chamber and aim.

Hay Mountain

This is a lot of fun for kids and adults. There are ropes to swing from and you drop in the hay, which is easy to sink into so keep an eye on your littles.

Gemstone Mining
We had a few star tabs left over so we headed to Gemstone mining. You can choose from rocks, polished rocks, and arrowheads. You are supplied a bag containing the items hidden in a bag of sand. Grab a sifter and head to the water. They have baggies for you to collect your treasure.

Macaroni Kid Katy tip: Your child(ren) will get wet on this one. Try as you might to keep them from getting sand and water on them, it is to no avail. So if you are worried about them walking around wet and sandy, save this activity for the end.

Photo opportunities

In addition to pumpkin patch photos, there are lots of places to get fun fall photos.

Little Farmersville is an area for kids 6 and under. It has a sandbox, swings and trikes.

Other attractions we really enjoyed: Dewville Express Train, Sliiide Mountain, Pedal Carts, and Rat Racers.

Additional Macaroni Kid Katy tips:

Packing: Hand sanitizer, hats, bug spray, sunscreen, band-aids, wipes. The usual stuff when packing a mom bag.

Bring Cash: There is an ATM if you are in a bind but this is helpful for setting a "budget" for a family outing. Food and activities are mostly cash based.

Purchasing pumpkins: Pumpkins are .60 a pound. If you get several, there are wagons you can use to bring them to the pumpkin check-out barn.

Restrooms: There are facilities scattered throughout the farm, one by the flower picking hut, one by pumpkin checkout, in Mattie's kitchen and a row behind Mattie's kitchen. I am not sure about the other locations but the row of stalls behind Mattie's kitchen has changing table in the end stall on the women's side.

Special Fireworks on the Farm and Light Up the Sky Fireworks events will be October 14th and 21st starting at 8:30pm

After the Fall Fun...

Choose-n-Cut Christmas Trees runs from November 24th to December 10th. Admission and main activities are free. Trees are priced by type, height, and quality. They furnish the saws if you prefer to cut your own or they can cut the tree for you. Food will be limited to Saturdays and Sundays and Black Friday only.

Wooded Wonderland Light Showopens December 7th and you will find it transformed to a Christmas Village. By reservation only, they will have wagon rides through the woods so you can watch the 15 acre wooded light show. Check the website for dates and updates.
