Planning a family trip this spring break? Here are a few things you should plan and discuss with the gang to make the trip a success:
- Share your trip details – Make sure everyone is aware of the name of the hotel and rental car company being used. Make sure to forward a copy of your itinerary to a friend or family member who will not be making the trip with you as well. It’s always a good idea to let someone know where you will be.
- Traveling on the road? – Make sure your vehicle is equipped. Check to make sure your tires are in good condition and your fluids are topped off. Also, plan your gas stops along the way and pack some car gadgets to get the kids through the trip (tablet, books, toys, etc.)
- Plan for the weather – Rain in the forecast? Make sure you have umbrellas and a covered stroller. Beach and sun? Buy your sunscreen ahead of time. And remember, all sunscreen isn’t waterproof. So, buy the right product!
- Water activities – Fatalities happen every spring and summer break on the water. Make sure to have a watchful eye over younger children especially.Life jackets, safety kits and limit the adults on the alcoholic beverages is a must to keeping it safe on the water.
- Review safety and emergency plans with the group - A password is what my mom always used with me and my sisters when we were kids. If a stranger comes to get you and says mom wanted them to pick you up, they better know the password. Also, meeting places is crucial in crowded places. If the family gets separated, make sure to have a meeting place as the place to go (i.e., in front of the bathroom, at the information desk, etc.).
Now let’s get those bags packed. Happy travels!
