Local Walgreens Are Remaining Open - Regular Store Hours

By Sonja Nwabuoku - Publisher of Macaroni Kid, Katy TX April 7, 2020

Simply put, these are unsettling times we are experiencing.  And with the white house administration stating that these next few weeks will be the “toughest weeks” thus far, we want to limit our time away from home even more.  That is why it is uber important to shop smart, purchasing what you need in the right amounts.

As I follow local neighborhood apps and local Facebook groups, I see there is still an issue with people stockpiling items deemed ‘essential’.  This undermines the very nature of togetherness in the community. But for the rest of us, it underscores the importance of shopping smart.  We are now seeing how vital store hours, cleanliness, customer service, and item availability really is.

While I have been shopping at the larger grocery stores for most food items, I have been very pleased with my local Walgreens for other essential items.  From paper products to rubbing alcohol, and yes, even some grocery items!

I have been able to pick up my regular prescription items with no delays.  And, even with the stress that pharmacy staff must be experiencing during this pandemic, one staff member took time out to recommend I add vitamin D drops to my infant’s bottles as a supplement for not getting as much sunlight during this ‘stay home’ order.  Other items I’ve picked up on my last trip to Walgreens – coloring book, crayons, nail polish, and laundry detergent.

As a community, we oftentimes thank our first responders for their bravery (and rightfully so).  Other times, we thank educators for their expertise and patience in working with our most precious jewels – our children.  And as of late, we have been recognizing healthcare workers more for the jobs they are doing during this global health emergency.  But we must also remember to thank the retail clerks that are showing up every day to work, despite the risks they are exposing themselves and their families to.  This includes our local Walgreens pharmacy staff.

As most of us get to express our frustration of ‘cabin-fever’ on social media from the comforts of our home, these workers are showing up to work every day to keep businesses operating for all of us.  So, the next time you stop in at your neighborhood Walgreens and the pharmacy staff member or cashier greets you with a smile, make sure to say “thank you”.
